First Impressions

As we landed into Singapore at 1 am local time I couldn't help but wonder what was going to greet us when we got off the plane. I was surprised to see 6 military men standing between the plane door and the gate entrance. I think they were checking to see if I was chewing gum! Seriously I have no real idea why they were there and it was late so gum chewing police sounded good to me.

After we got through immigration, the first thing I saw in the main concourse of the airport was Starbucks. I have determined all will be fine! Good to see I can get some decent coffee, I did not check out the prices at it was 1 am and I not dare consume caffeine but I imagine it is not too far off from U.S. prices, I plan to investigate that as we are out and about today. We walked right through customs, Singapore is very efficient, a cab organizer guy told us what cab to head for after he sized up all the luggage we had. I noticed he was wearing LATEX gloves!!! Scary thing for me, rubber is one of Singapore's biggest commodities so I am a bit worried about latex exposure while we are here.  Please pray that latex will not be a problem.

I awoke at 6 am Singapore time, that is 5 pm WI time and had to get up. The picture above is the view from our hotel room. To the left of the picture is a horizontal building, that is actually a casino built to look like a ship floating in air. It has trees growing at the top of it!  I wonder how they did that.

You may notice that it is dark out in my picture, I took the photo around 6:30 am. the sunrise is about 7 am every day and the sunset is about 7 pm every day.

Today we meet with  "Asian Welcome" they are helping us find housing while we are here.  They will pick us up this morning and give us a city tour.  Oh yes, one more thing I should mention, I ate shrimp on the plane, shrimp with lemon grass and it was really good!  I never eat shrimp as I don't care for it so this was a bold step for me.

  1. Way to step out of your box! I'm glad you enjoyed the shrimp and that you've had such a good trip so far. I am "homesick" for Asia just reading this!
