We are on our way, my first trip to Singapore is in progress, currently we are at the Detroit International Airport awaiting our flight into Tokyo Japan where we will make our connection into Singapore.
I was a bit concerned before we left home due to my latex allergy. If I eat food that has been touched by latex gloves I have an allergic reaction that involves throat and tongue swelling, this is not a good thing ever but especially if you are on a 14 hour flight to Japan!!
I did my best to contact the airline catering companies before we left. Sky Chef and Gate Gourmet are the most commonly used catering services. I called them, I e-mailed them, I researched on line to see if I could determine if they use LATEX gloves when preparing their food. It is amazing how you can not get an answer on this. Delta did not know, when I called the press room I got a round about answer and they changed their answer twice while on the phone with me, it was a 5 minute conversation and I left with no answer about latex. OK, no problem I have food with me some great GoTrek snacks that my sister told me about from Costco online, a great combo of protein and complex carbs but we are traveling for 28 plus hours.
Well my fears have been put to rest. We are flying business class provided by the company and so we get to sit in the lounge in the Delta terminal. I have had hummus with sun dried tomatoes and olive oil, Tillamook cheese, carrots, ranch dip crackers and some nutella with biscotti. All snack size of course but added up it made a nice little lunch and I have my GoTrek for the plane ride. I am not worried about the latex allergy and am completely satisfied.
